Today we are celebrating the birthday of one of the most creative and widely known children’s authors, Dr. Seuss. Known for his timeless stories like Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, his magical tales captivated the minds of kids (and adults) of all ages. Thinking back on our own childhood reading experiences, we can’t even begin to explain how much of an impact the awe-inspiring stories that Dr. Seuss created had on our early years. And this shows the legacy that Dr. Seuss leaves behind, one of great accomplishment in the art of inspiring children to read. In celebration of his work, Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day, sponsored by the NEA, highlights this legendary author’s birthday by encouraging kids and their families to get engaged with reading!
Here at Flagology, we will admit that we had some trouble coming up with the best Dr. Seuss quote to feature in today’s blog, because his ability to put meaning into even the shortest of sentences was uncanny. But we decided that one of the great things about Dr. Seuss was his ability to imagine, create and dream about greater things to come. Which is why we love the quote, “You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut.” So much of Dr. Seuss’s work was built around inspiring kids to achieve their dreams and explore their own minds and the world around them, which is why we found this quote so beautiful.
So today, Dr. Seuss’s birthday, let’s make it a goal to spread some encouragement and dare to dream more, because a little imagination can go a long way.
