Halloween is for Memories

Halloween is for Memories

When your child is born and the first Halloween rolls around – all of a sudden you really understand what is so awesome about this day.  You dress them up as a round little tiger or a peapod or a pumpkin. You take way too many pictures.  A few years later, you can see the awe in their eyes the first time they actually knock on a door all by themselves and say “trick or treat” in a quiet voice.

“Mama look!!!  It’s Candy!”

They shyly turn their heads into your leg when asked what their costume is and you answer for them.

And let us not forget the mom with a 10-year old who balances on the cusp of leaving Halloween behind.  They snub their noses at princesses and knights and want to dress as a “zombie twin” with their BFF.  On Halloween night, they beg to run in the dark alone and you feel this pull between letting them fly and protecting them with your very heart.

Whatever happens on Halloween, those memories become a part of family lore.  Do they eat all the candy in a day or two – or count and sort by color and trade as if they were running a multinational conglomerate?  Do you sneak into the stash at night, eat the Junior Mints and then look puzzled when they ask about it in the morning?

I still cry when I see a picture of my daughter, a few months old, dressed as a lion – so sweet and happy, I could eat her up.  I remember who was there with us that year, friends just sitting on our porch and enjoying her small self.

We launched our new little love, www.Flagology.com, during the week of Halloween.  So of course we made some Halloween flags.  Here is Lorrie with her family, dressed as a hot dog and condiments – easiest costume ever, she tells me.  And our mascots, Emme & Bella with their friend, Buster in their Halloween attire ready for the night.

Now is the time to get ready for next year – take a picture tonight of your child, your family, or your pet dressed in their Halloween finest.  Upload your best photo & create a Halloween flag to fly next year!  Your Halloween memories will remind you of all the wonder and excitement of the holiday.

To celebrate the fun and commemorate the child in all of us, we will give away a free flag for the most awesome child, family or pet Halloween photo. Simply go to our Facebook page, post your photo to our wall and let us know why you think your photo is special. Be sure to tag your photo with the hashtag #PutYourHeartonYourFlag!!  On Monday, we will post the Put Your Heart on Your Flag winner on our blog – and send that person their FREE flag!
